Westwood Hills Hike

This weekend, we hiked Westwood Hills for about two hours. The park has about 3 miles of hiking trails and a whopping 300’ elevation gain. All of the trails wind through trees and over rocks, directing the hiker to the hilltop where views of the valley are beyond justified description; just superlative, astounding, and exquisite.
During our quest for the top, my son Paper Basil did a fine job of identifying blue belly lizards, madrones, eucalyptus, coast live oak, and poison oak. Fortunately, he did not see the giant hornets nest on the ground, which was about 6 feet tall and 3.75 feet wide. This is a grossly estimated measurement, as I only caught a glimpse of the nest before grabbing Paper Basil’s arm and bolting down the trail. After that, we stumbled upon a wonderful treasure: a tree swing!

Overall, I would say the hike was eventful. A return hike will definately be scheduled for a later date.
